About Speechify
What it is
Speechify reads text aloud. You give it an article, a document, an email or a scanned page and it plays it back in a synthetic voice, with speed control and the ability to pick up where you left off across devices.
Why it's different
Its voices are more natural than the reader built into most operating systems and it handles messy sources well, including PDFs and photographs of printed pages, which is where free readers usually fall down. The good voices sit behind the paid tier and the free one is noticeably worse, so judging it on the free version is judging a different product. Your phone and browser already read text aloud for nothing, which is enough for many people.
How people use it
Getting through reading you would not otherwise finish. Listening to documents while commuting or walking. Support for dyslexia and other reading difficulties, which is a large part of its audience. Proofreading your own writing, because hearing a sentence read back catches what rereading it does not.
