About Echoform
What it is
Echoform is version control for Ableton Live projects. It saves a checkpoint automatically whenever a project changes, so you can compare versions, hear an audio preview of each, see which tracks were added or renamed, and branch from an earlier point to try a different direction.
Why it's different
It applies version control to the one place producers most need it and least have it: the moment a mix was right, three hours before you ruined it. Doing that automatically matters, because a producer mid-session will not stop to commit anything. It is free and open source. It is also early software at a 0.0.x version, it understands Ableton and nothing else, and checkpoints of audio projects consume disk quickly, so pruning becomes part of using it.
How people use it
Producers who save over their own work and regret it. Trying an arrangement without losing the previous one. Comparing two versions of a mix by ear rather than by filename. Keeping a history across a long project. Check what it is costing you in disk after the first month, because audio checkpoints accumulate far faster than code ones do.
