About Deepgram

What it is

Deepgram is a speech-to-text platform for developers. It transcribes recorded audio and live streams through an API, handles many languages, and can be tuned for particular vocabulary such as product names or medical terms.

Why it's different

Speed and cost are the argument, particularly for streaming: it is built to return text while someone is still talking, which is what voice interfaces and live captioning need and what batch-oriented services handle badly. Like its competitors it is a developer product, so there is nothing here for a person with a single recording. Accuracy on difficult audio is comparable to rivals rather than decisively ahead, so the choice usually comes down to price, latency and whose model copes with your accents.

How people use it

Live captioning and real-time voice interfaces. Transcribing call recordings at volume. Voice control inside an application. Building a searchable archive of recorded audio. Test with your own worst recordings rather than the demo, because every vendor sounds excellent on clean studio speech and they separate on bad phone lines.
