About Superwhisper
What it is
Superwhisper is a dictation application for Mac that runs speech recognition on your own machine. You hold a shortcut, speak, and the text is typed into whatever application is in front of you, using models that work with no internet connection.
Why it's different
Running locally is the entire point, and it is a real distinction rather than a technical footnote: nothing you dictate leaves the machine, so it is usable for client material, medical or legal notes and anything under a confidentiality agreement, where a cloud dictation service is simply not permitted. It works offline for the same reason. The costs are that it is Mac-only, the better models want a recent machine, and the dictation built into your operating system is free and may already be enough.
How people use it
Drafting email, notes and documents by speaking. Dictating where the content cannot be sent to a third party. Writing on a train or a plane with no connection. Reducing typing for anyone who finds it painful. Try the dictation already built into your system first, because if it handles your accent and vocabulary this is a cost you do not need.
