What it is
Luma AI covers capture as well as generation. It builds 3D scenes from ordinary video shot on a phone, and it generates video from text and images through its generative models.
Why it's different
The capture side is the distinctive part and it works remarkably well: walking around an object with a phone and getting a usable 3D scene was research-grade a few years ago and is now routine. That is a genuinely different proposition from generating 3D from nothing, because it captures something real. The caveat is what you get. Captures are scene representations rather than clean meshes, so they are excellent to look at and awkward to edit, rig or use as production game assets without substantial work.
