What it is
Secret Llama runs a language model entirely inside your web browser. There is no server and no installation: the model downloads into the browser and runs on your own machine using its access to the graphics hardware, so conversations never leave the device.
Why it's different
Needing neither an install nor a server is a genuinely clever arrangement, and it makes the privacy claim easy to verify, since you can disconnect from the internet once the model has loaded and it carries on working. As a demonstration of what browsers can now do it is striking. As a daily tool it is limited, and honestly so: the model must download each session unless cached, it needs a browser with modern graphics support, and models small enough to run this way are well behind anything hosted.
