About Recraft
What it is
Recraft generates vector graphics as well as raster images, producing editable SVG output. It can hold a consistent style across a set, generate icon sets and illustrations, and handle text inside an image reliably enough to actually use.
Why it's different
Vector output is the genuine difference and it matters more than it sounds. Almost every generator produces pixels, which cannot be scaled, recoloured or cleanly edited by a designer, whereas an SVG goes straight into real design work. It is also markedly better than most at rendering readable text within an image. It is aimed at designers, so it assumes some familiarity with the vocabulary, and the free tier is small enough to count as a trial.
How people use it
Icon and illustration sets that must share a style. Logos and graphics needing to scale cleanly. Brand assets a designer will edit afterwards. Images where text has to be legible and correct. Generate in vector wherever you can, because that is the reason to be here and raster output puts you back among cheaper competitors.
Step by step
- Generate in vector rather than raster wherever you can. Editable SVG is the whole reason to be here; a PNG puts you back among cheaper tools.
- Create a style first and generate everything in a set against it, because consistency across many assets is what this does and a one-off image is not.
- Put the text you want rendered in quotes in the prompt. It handles text inside images better than most, and quoting makes it far more reliable.
- Export the SVG and open it in a real design tool to finish. Treat the output as a strong starting point rather than a final asset.
- The free tier is a trial. Judge it on a full icon set, not on one image.
