About Poe
What it is
Poe is a single interface to many AI models. Rather than holding separate subscriptions, you open one app and choose which model answers, including ones from several competing companies, and you can make simple custom bots with your own instructions.
Why it's different
It is the cheapest way to find out which model you actually prefer, because comparing three answers to the same question takes seconds. The trade is that it is a layer on top: newest features tend to arrive in each company's own app first, and the deepest integrations are not here at all. Usage is metered across models, so heavy use of an expensive model runs down your allowance quickly.
How people use it
Deciding which assistant to pay for, by asking all of them your real work rather than a benchmark question. Getting a second opinion when an answer smells wrong. Occasional access to a model you would not subscribe to. Once you know which one you use daily, going direct is usually better value.
