About Lumo by Proton
What it is
Lumo is Proton's AI assistant. It answers questions and helps with writing and analysis, with chats stored under zero-access encryption so that Proton cannot read them, and with no use of conversations for training.
Why it's different
The privacy arrangement is the product, and Proton's record makes the claim more credible than the same words from a company funded by advertising: the encryption model means the provider genuinely cannot read stored conversations rather than promising not to. That is the reason to be here. The model behind it is not at the frontier, so on hard reasoning, long documents and code it trails the leading assistants, and the surrounding ecosystem of integrations is small by comparison.
How people use it
Questions involving personal, legal, medical or otherwise confidential material. People already inside Proton's ecosystem. Anyone wanting an assistant without a permanent readable history. Use it where the sensitivity of the material outweighs the difficulty of the task, and something stronger where the reverse is true.
