About LANDR
What it is
LANDR masters recorded music automatically. You upload a mix and it returns a mastered version with loudness, balance and finish adjusted, and it sells distribution, samples and plugins around that core service.
Why it's different
Mastering is the step small artists most often skip, and an automated master is better than no master and far cheaper than an engineer, which is a real service. What it cannot do is what a mastering engineer actually does: listen in context, tell you the mix is the problem rather than the master, and judge what the record is for. It treats every track as the same job, so on a mix with a genuine fault it will produce a confident, polished version of that fault.
How people use it
Demos and releases that cannot justify an engineer. Quick masters for streaming and social. Hearing what a track sounds like finished before deciding. Fix the mix rather than reaching for a better master, because no automated process can undo a decision made earlier in the chain.
