About Lambda

What it is

Lambda rents NVIDIA GPU compute: on-demand instances by the hour, one-click multi-node clusters, and reserved capacity for long runs. It also publishes benchmarks and maintains Lambda Stack, a packaged set of machine learning drivers and libraries for its machines.

Why it's different

It is a specialist rather than a general cloud, and that is the point - the machines come configured for this work instead of requiring a day of driver archaeology, and the price per GPU-hour reflects not paying for a hyperscaler's other two hundred services. The trade is everything around the GPU: identity, networking, storage and managed databases are thinner, so it suits a training or inference workload rather than a whole application estate.

How people use it

Training and fine-tuning runs that need more than one card. Inference on hardware you control. Research work priced out of the big clouds. Check availability for the specific card you need before planning around it, because scarce GPUs are scarce everywhere and reservations exist for a reason.
