About Heptabase
What it is
Heptabase is a note-taking tool built around a visual canvas. Notes are cards you arrange spatially, connect and group into maps, with AI search across everything you have written.
Why it's different
Spatial arrangement is the argument, and it suits a specific kind of thinking: when you are trying to understand something complicated, seeing how the pieces relate on a board works better than a list or a folder tree. For sustained study of a difficult subject it is genuinely different from linear tools. That focus is also the limit. It is heavier than a quick-capture app, it wants deliberate organising, and it is paid in a category with capable free options.
How people use it
Studying or researching a complex subject over weeks. Literature reviews and thesis work. Making sense of a large body of material. Use it for the material you need to understand rather than for everything, because it rewards deliberate organisation and punishes being treated as an inbox.
