About Geekbot

What it is

Geekbot asks each person your standup questions in Slack or Microsoft Teams on a schedule, collects the answers, and posts the digest to a channel. The same mechanism runs retrospectives, polls and recurring surveys, and it now exposes an MCP server and a CLI so agents can read the same data.

Why it's different

The argument is not that async standups are novel but that the alternative is fifteen people synchronising diaries to say three sentences each. Written answers are searchable afterwards, which a call is not. Where it fails is where standups were already failing: it turns a status meeting into a status form, and a team that was not reading each other's updates before will not read them now. It replaces the meeting, not the reason the meeting was not working.

How people use it

Distributed teams across timezones. Weekly retrospectives and engagement surveys. Any recurring meeting that exists to collect updates rather than make decisions. Keep the question list to three, because a form long enough to feel like work gets answered with one word.
