About Tabby

What it is

Tabby is a self-hosted coding assistant. You run it on your own hardware, it serves completion and chat to editors across your network, and it can index your repositories so that suggestions reflect your own code. It is open source.

Why it's different

Self-hosting is the entire reason to choose it. For organisations where source code genuinely cannot leave the network, such as defence, regulated finance or work under a strict client agreement, this is one of very few real options and the alternative is no assistant at all. The costs are honest: you need a GPU and somebody to run it, and completion quality trails the big commercial tools, because they are serving far larger models than you will host.

How people use it

Environments where code cannot leave the premises. Organisations with a policy against cloud assistants. Teams with hardware already in place. Anyone wanting an assistant with no per-seat fee. Judge it against having no assistant at all rather than against the market leaders, because that is the actual choice it exists to answer.
