About Bolt.new
What it is
Bolt.new builds working web applications from a description, in the browser. It writes the code, installs the packages, runs the development server and shows you the result in a live preview, with nothing installed on your machine, and it can deploy the finished thing.
Why it's different
Running a real Node environment inside a browser tab is what separates it from a code generator: you see the application running and change it by asking. For a first version it is genuinely impressive. The wall is real and arrives early, though. As an application grows each change costs more tokens and the model grows likelier to break something that already worked. It is a way to reach a prototype quickly rather than a way to maintain software.
How people use it
Prototyping an idea to show somebody. Landing pages and small internal tools. Seeing what a framework looks like in practice. Producing a starting point you will export into a real editor. Export the code and put it under version control as soon as it does anything useful, because iterating inside the tool gets dearer and less reliable exactly as the project becomes worth keeping.
