What it is
Snyk finds security problems in software. It scans dependencies for known vulnerabilities, checks your own code for insecure patterns, examines container images and infrastructure configuration, and increasingly focuses on reviewing code that AI tools generated.
Why it's different
It is the established name here and the dependency scanning is genuinely good, proposing fixes rather than only reporting problems. Two things to plan for. Volume is the usual failure: a first scan of any real codebase produces a list long enough that teams declare bankruptcy on it and stop looking, so triage matters more than the tool does. And pricing scales with developers and projects in a way that becomes expensive quickly for a small team.
How people use it
Continuous dependency scanning in a pipeline. Checking a codebase before release. Meeting a customer or compliance requirement. Reviewing generated code nobody wrote deliberately. Fix the reachable, exploitable issues first and leave the rest, because treating every finding as equally urgent is how teams end up ignoring all of them.
