About Roboflow
What it is
Roboflow covers computer vision end to end: labelling images with AI assistance, managing and augmenting datasets, hosted training, and deployment to a device, an edge box, your own cloud or an API. Universe, its public library, holds a large collection of open datasets and pretrained models.
Why it's different
Annotation is the unglamorous majority of a vision project and the reason most of them stall, so assisted labelling is where the time is actually saved. Universe matters as much: starting from an existing dataset or model for a common object beats collecting your own images, and people routinely rebuild things that were already there. The limit is that it is opinionated about the workflow, and a research team with its own pipeline will find it constraining rather than helpful.
How people use it
Detection and classification on a specific object nobody has a model for. Getting from a folder of photographs to a deployed model. Prototyping before committing to custom training infrastructure. Search Universe before labelling anything, because the dataset you were about to make often already exists.
