What it is
Kiro is an AI development environment built around specifications. Rather than prompting for code directly, you work from a written spec of requirements and design, which it turns into tasks and then into code, keeping the spec and the implementation connected as both change.
Why it's different
Making the specification the artefact is a genuine answer to the main complaint about AI coding: it produces a working thing nobody can maintain, because no record survives of what was intended. Writing the intent down first also improves the output. The cost is a slower, more deliberate workflow that feels like pure overhead on anything small. It is also new, so there is less community knowledge to draw on when it behaves unexpectedly.
How people use it
