About HeyGen
What it is
HeyGen makes video of a presenter from a script. You choose a stock avatar or create one from a recording of yourself, paste in text, and it produces a person delivering it. It also translates existing video into other languages with the speaker's lips matched to the new audio.
Why it's different
The video translation is the genuinely useful part and the reason to look here rather than at the alternatives. Turning one recording into a dozen languages with the mouth matching is a job that previously meant re-filming. The avatars themselves are competent but static: they stand and talk, and a viewer works out what they are watching quickly. It is not cheap, and the free allowance is small enough to be a demonstration rather than a trial.
How people use it
Training and internal communications that must exist in several languages. Product explainers where a real presenter is not worth the filming. Localising marketing video you have already made. Use it where the information matters more than the delivery. Anything meant to build a personal connection is better filmed with a real person.
