About Grok
What it is
Grok is the chat assistant from xAI. It answers questions, writes and edits text, generates images and helps with code, and it can draw on posts from X when a question is about something happening now.
Why it's different
Its distinguishing feature is live access to X, which makes it better than most at questions about an unfolding event or a current reaction. That same connection is its weakness: posts are not a reliable source, and an answer built from them inherits whatever was wrong or loud that day. It is also deliberately less filtered in tone than its competitors, which some people want and which makes it a poor fit for anything published under an organisation's name without review.
How people use it
Asking what people are saying about something right now. General writing and drafting. Quick coding questions. For anything factual and lasting, check it against a source that is not a social network, and be more careful than usual before passing its answers on as fact.
