About Greptile
What it is
Greptile indexes a whole codebase so questions can be asked about it in plain language. It explains how something works, finds where a behaviour is implemented, and reviews pull requests with an understanding of the surrounding code rather than only of the diff.
Why it's different
Reviewing a diff against the rest of the repository is the difference from most review tools, and it catches the class of problem that matters: a change that is fine in isolation and wrong given something three files away. In a large codebase that is precisely the review humans are worst at. It needs access to your source, which is a decision to take deliberately, and on a small or tidy codebase it has far less to tell you than the cost implies.
How people use it
Reviewing changes in a large codebase. Answering questions about unfamiliar code without interrupting whoever wrote it. Onboarding new developers. Finding where a behaviour lives before changing it. Ask it the questions you would otherwise put to a senior colleague, because that is what it stands in for rather than the completion in your editor.
