About CALA
What it is
CALA is a platform for designing and producing fashion. It generates design variations from a description or a sketch, then connects that to the unglamorous half of the business: technical packs, sampling and manufacturing partners.
Why it's different
Joining design to sourcing is the unusual part. Plenty of tools will produce a picture of a garment, but the difficulty in fashion is turning that into something a factory can actually make, and this attempts the whole chain. It is aimed at brands rather than individuals, so pricing and onboarding assume a business with production budgets. A generated image is also not a specification: what is manufacturable and what looks good in a render remain different questions.
