About Motion

What it is

Motion combines a calendar, a task list and project management, and schedules your tasks into your calendar automatically. It reshuffles the plan when a meeting appears or a task overruns, so the day always shows something achievable.

Why it's different

Automatic rescheduling is the genuine idea. Every planning system fails at the same point, which is the moment reality diverges from the plan and a person has to re-plan by hand, and doing that automatically is a real answer. Two honest limits. It only works if you put everything into it, including realistic durations, and most people will not sustain that. It is also among the most expensive tools in its category, with no free tier.

How people use it

People with many tasks and a fragmented calendar. Consultants juggling several clients. Anyone who repeatedly overcommits and needs a realistic picture. Commit to estimating durations honestly for a month before deciding, because the scheduling is only as good as the numbers you give it and optimistic estimates produce a useless plan.

Step by step

  1. Put everything in, including the work you do not want to admit takes three hours. It schedules what it knows about and nothing else.
  2. Give every task an honest duration. Optimistic estimates produce a plan that collapses by Tuesday, which is why most people abandon it.
  3. Set deadlines rather than start times and let it place the work, because manual placement defeats the one thing it does.
  4. Protect your calendar with declared working hours before it starts filling evenings.
  5. Review the week on Friday and correct the durations that were wrong. It gets better only if you tell it.
