About Elementor
What it is
Elementor is a drag-and-drop builder for WordPress. It edits pages visually rather than through the theme, generates whole pages and design systems from a prompt, builds WooCommerce stores, and now bundles hosting, image optimisation, accessibility scanning and cookie consent.
Why it's different
It won because it let people edit a WordPress site without touching a theme file, and that remains the reason to use it: the skill required drops to about zero. What it costs is performance and portability. Pages carry the builder's own markup, so a site built in it is slower than a hand-built one and cannot easily be moved off it. Deactivating the plugin leaves shortcodes where your content was. Fine for a marketing site; think harder for anything you expect to migrate.

Small business and marketing sites on WordPress. Landing pages without a developer. Client sites somebody non-technical must maintain. Test page speed on mobile before launch, because the builder makes it easy to add far more to a page than a phone can load comfortably.
