About Phind

What it is

Phind is a search engine aimed at developers. It answers technical questions in prose with worked examples and cites the pages it drew on, rather than returning a list of links for you to read through.

Why it's different

It was built when general assistants were poor at current technical documentation, and citing its sources was the distinguishing feature: you could check whether an answer came from real documentation or had been invented. That gap has narrowed considerably now that mainstream assistants search the web and cite too, which makes the case for a separate developer search tool much weaker than it was. It remains good at what it does; it is simply less obviously necessary.

How people use it

Error messages and specific technical questions. Checking how a library is meant to be used. Finding current documentation rather than an outdated answer. Compare it directly against whichever assistant you already pay for, because the honest question is no longer whether it is good but whether it does anything your existing tool does not.
