About Gong

What it is

Gong records and analyses customer conversations across calls, email and meetings. It transcribes them, identifies what was discussed, tracks deals against what was actually said, and reports patterns across a whole sales team.

Why it's different

Its value is aggregate rather than individual. One call summary is useful, but seeing which behaviours across hundreds of calls correlate with closed deals is something no manager can do by listening, which is why it sells to sales leadership rather than to representatives. Two honest points. It is expensive and priced for organisations, and it is surveillance of employees as much as analysis of customers, which needs handling openly. Recording consent rules also vary by jurisdiction and are strict across much of Europe.

How people use it

Sales organisations wanting coaching grounded in real calls. Forecasting from what was said rather than from optimism in a CRM. Understanding why deals are lost. Sort out recording consent for every jurisdiction you sell into before switching it on, because retrofitting that is far harder than configuring it at the start.
